Personal protective equipment. Ergonomic principles

BS EN 13921 provides guidance on the generic ergonomic characteristics related to personal protective equipment (PPE).
BS EN 13921 specifies for the writers of PPE product standards, principles relating to:

- anthropometric characteristics related to PPE;
- the biomechanical interaction between PPE and the human body;
- the thermal interaction between PPE and the human body;
- the interaction between PPE and the human senses: vision, hearing, smell, taste and skin contact.

BS 8469:2007

Personal protective equipment for firefighters. Assessment of ergonomic performance and compatibility. Requirements and test methods

BS 8469 specifies requirements and test methods for the objective and subjective evaluation of the ergonomic and thermal impact of personal protective equipment (PPE) ensembles, including clothing and respiratory protective equipment (RPE), on firefighters.

BS 8469 can be used by end users, Notified Bodies, manufacturers or others to compare the performance of different ensembles as part of a firefighters™ PPE selection process, thereby assisting employers in demonstrating compliance with The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992.
